An easy-to-grow houseplant Zamioculcas zamiifolia can grow in just about any indoor setting. The raven ZZ plant features rich purple-black leaves that emerge as a rich green colour before they mature. It tolerates inconsistent watering; low, medium, or bright light spots; and holds up well in low humidity. raven ZZ plant is slow-growing and can eventually reach about 30 inches (76 centimeters) tall and wide over time. It grows equally well in natural or artificial light, and unlike many plants with purple foliage, it doesn’t require strong light intensity to develop its rich coloration.
Care
Avoid direct sunlight. The raven ZZ can survive very low light conditions, but is also happy in a south facing window. If you notice your ZZ stretching up and getting leggy, give it a little more light.
Zzs are prone to root rot, and require a well draining soil and infrequent waterings. We prefer to water once every 2 weeks in the growing season, and once every 4-6 weeks in the winter. ZZ plants in general don’t need a lot of humidity. When caring for this plant, think back to where it grows in nature: dry grasslands and forests, mostly. ZZ plants grow well in average household humidity levels, meaning you don’t have to worry about adding a humidifier or pebble tray to increase humidity.
